This site is dedicated to the memory of Catherine Ward.

16th April 1922 - 4th March 2012 Mum was a fantastic mother, hard working, generous and throughout her life always thought of others. She was a very active lady who worked until she was sixty and then for two decades run the BHS club for retired employees at Romford and then Ilford. She also worked very hard during the late sixties and early seventies to support the Zenith Venture Scout Unit in Gidea Park, Romford. Unfortunately five or six years ago she was diagnosed with emphysema which started to restrict her mobility due to a shortness of breath. During the last two to three years she was really confined to home and for the last nine months spent most of her days on oxygen. Her mind and wit were still very sharp and we were looking forward to celebrating Mother’s Day this year and what would have been her ninetieth birthday on the 16th April 2012. This however was not to be and her body finally gave out during the early hours of Sunday, 4th March 2012. She died peacefully in her sleep in her own bed, which had always been what she had wanted. She was suffering with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and pulmonary fibrosis. Any support you can give to help research find better ways to improve the quality of life for those with this condition will be very much appreciated. The loss of my Mum has left me and all of our family with a great gap in our lives and it hurts. She was a hard working lady that always wanted the best for her family and was generous in giving to others. Thank you.
